The basic package for newborns is the perfect way into the wonderful world of wool nappies. The package is designed in such a way that the absorbing inserts must be washed about every two to three days. The wool covers can dry out after use and must be washed once they are dirty or start to smell. The package includes three wool covers of your choice, 32 absorbing inserts, lanolin and green olive soap flakes for greasing, olive curd soap and wool washing soap for cleaning, and three nappy fasteners that are used to hold the muslin nappies together. You receive various absorbing inserts that you can use from the beginning till the end of the nappy time, not only in the first months. The basic package gives you a great opportunity to also test the different absorbing inserts and to discover the most suitable ones that fits your baby’s needs.

 

Materials

The covers are either lined with knitted wool, wool fleece, or fine boiled wool made of 100% organic merino wool. The outer fabric is made from stretchable (organic) cotton jersey. Stretchable nappies tend to fit longer than nappies made from non-stretchy fabrics (e.g., pure cotton) and this is important to us, especially for the little ones who are growing fast.

 

Beginner’s Guide from “Die Stoffwickler“

In addition, you receive the Beginner’s Guide from “Die Stoffwickler” on how to get started with cloth nappies, with special emphasis on wool. Spoken language is German but you can select the subtitle in your language. The course includes twelve videos and a course book. The guide is worth € 49 but you will get it for free as part of this package.

Description

Wool cover

  • For information on how to wash and grease the wool cover please click here.
  • Before first use, the wool cover must be greased in a lanolin bath.
  • Wash at low speed in the wool wash program of the washing machine or by hand.
  • No tumble dryer. No bleaching. No ironing.
  • Lining: 100% organic merino wool

Absorbing inserts

  • The absorbing inserts have to be washed a couple of times to reach full absorption capacity
  • To speed up the process you can let them soak in water overnight before first use
  • Wash at maximum 60°C  and tumble at low temperature
  • Cotton folding insert and liner: 100% organic cotton
  • Muslin nappy: 100% organic cotton
  • Hemp/cotton folding insert and booster: 55% hemp, 45% organic cotton

Or maybe an icing on a Smurfs cake?   The wool cover is made from stretchable cotton jersey on the outside and is lined with finest organic merino wool. The knitted wool comes from European mulesing-free and organic livestock farming, and is span under fair conditions in Germany. The wool cover must be greased with wool fat (lanolin) before first use to get water-repellent. It must further be combined with absorbing inserts (e.g., cotton flat, hemp flat, or muslin cloth) to form a complete nappy. The wool cover is available in the following sizes: Size 1 (ca. 4-7 kg), Size 2 (ca. 7-12 kg) and Size 3 (ca. 11-16 kg), and as a one-size cover (ca. 7-16 kg). The one-size cover corresponds to Size 3 with reduction buttons on the front and can be, at least at the beginning, too large for slim children. Please note that the weight information of the sizes can only be an estimate, as the fit depends on the stature of the respective child. Jovoh wool covers are made either from pure organic wool or from a combination of organic wool and (organic) cotton fabrics. The cover must be combined with absorbing material (e.g., folding insert, prefold, or muslin nappy) and greased with wool fat (lanolin) before first use to get water-repellent. The cover may also fit over compact absorbent nappies; however, it will probably not manage large and voluminous night nappies.   Materials The outer fabric consists of 100% finest organic merino wool from Mrs.BeAn. The fabric is dyed with vegetable dyes and knitted or spun in Germany. The main dyes used are madder root, mignonette, indigo, yellowwood, logwood, and redwood. A wonderfully natural fabric whose components are sustainably obtained and processed. Wool nappies made of pure wool are soft, stretchable, and extra tight due to the two layers of wool. As outer fabric we use two different types: Single jersey is a very thin and filigree fabric, whereas Jacquard fabric is sewn in two layers and is hence a little bit thicker. The cover is lined with either knitted wool, wool fleece, or fine boiled wool made of 100% organic merino wool. As closure you can choose between snaps and velcro. The classic wool covers from Jovoh are made with snaps, which are attached in such a way that they do not touch the child's skin. There is also the option of choosing a Velcro fastener. The advantage of Velcro is the stepless adjustment, whereby care must be taken that the so-called “over-snapping” of the wings is not possible. Over-snapping means that the snaps on the outside of the wings are used, and allow slim children a seamless transition between sizes. Velcro requires some care, as e.g. lint can get caught in it. The counter Velcro on the wings must be closed when storing and washing the nappy to prevent the wool fabric from being damaged by the barbs of the Velcro.   Single jersey: Hearts, Juniper, Laburnum, Speckles Jacquard: Apples, Dots, Flowers, Raindrops Sling fabric   Size guide The wool cover is available in three sizes: Size 1 (ca. 4-7 kg), size 2 (ca. 7-12 kg) and size 3 (ca. 11-16 kg). Please note that the weight information of the sizes can only be an estimate, as the fit depends on the stature of the respective child. The type of outer fabric also makes a difference on how the nappy fit. Wool covers made from stretchable fabric tend to adapt better to the child’s stature and are suitable for stronger children. According to experience, they also fit longer than covers made from non-stretchy fabrics (e.g., pure cotton) and this is especially important for newborns. Non-stretchy covers on the other hand are more likely to retain their shape and are recommended for slim children. Stretchy as well as non-stretchable fabrics are suitable for this, e.g., pure cotton, jersey, wool, wool-silk, or linen.
