Starter Package | Cotton & wool

This pack is the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of woollen nappies for both new and experienced cloth nappy users. It contains a wool cover of your choice, lanolin for greasing, a sample bag of olive soap flakes and five different absorbent inserts. The wool cover is made from organic merino wool and (organic) cotton fabric. The cover must be combined with absorbent inserts and greased with lanolin before first use to make it water-repellent.

Size guide

The wool cover is available in three sizes: Size 1 (approx. 4-7 kg), Size 2 (approx. 7-12 kg) and Size 3 (approx. 11-16 kg). Please note that the weights given for each size are approximate as the fit will vary depending on the stature of the child.

Possible combinations of inserts

There is a rule of thumb when combining absorbent inserts: Fast-absorbing cotton should always be in contact with the child, with hemp inserts underneath. Hemp absorbs more moisture than cotton, but relatively slowly.

  • The cotton flat is folded three times along the long side and placed directly into the wool cover. Make sure the flat reaches the edge of the cover, but not beyond. Otherwise there is a risk of leakage.
  • To increase absorbency, combine the cotton flat with a hemp booster: along the entire length (booster – long) or selectively (booster – short) where absorption is needed most. For boys, more in the front and for girls in the middle of the cover.
  • The hemp flat is placed directly into the wool cover. Fold the flat along the long side for size 1 covers and along the short side for size 2 and 3 covers. It must be combined with a cotton liner or muslin nappy. Pure cotton absorbs moisture quickly and directs it downwards where it is stored in the hemp flat.

Scope of delivery

A wool washing soap is highly recommended for minor stains. The soap contains lanolin and greases the wool as it is washed. In the long term, this will prevent the wool from becoming too greasy. Read more about how to use wool washing soap in this blog.
