Wool cover “Zero waste” | Customised order

The ‘zero waste’ wool cover is made from small pieces of fabric that are left over from cutting and sewing other products. The use of these fabrics therefore offers the opportunity to work sustainably, which is right at the heart of Jovoh.

The wool cover is a special combination of high quality organic merino wool and (organic) cotton. Just like the 100% wool cover, it has a double layer of wool in the central “wet” area and around the leg cuffs where leakage is more likely to occur. Thanks to the two layers of wool, the nappies can withstand longer changing intervals and are therefore suitable for use at night or when travelling. They are also recommended when the child is carried in a sling. The pressure applied on the nappy can push the moisture through the wool cover. An additional layer of wool can work wonders here. The wool is combined with beautiful cotton fabric at the upper part.

 

How to order a zero-waste wool cover

We use the standard natural wool knit for the central part of the outer layer and for the lining. The cotton fabric can be chosen from the drop-down menu below. Choose “Other fabric” if the one you want is not listed and leave a note during checkout.

 

Materials and general notes

The wool comes from European mulesing-free and organic livestock farming, and is span under fair conditions in Germany. It is dyed with vegetable dyes. The main dyes used are madder root, mignonette, indigo, yellowwood, logwood, and redwood. A wonderfully natural fabric whose components are sustainably obtained and processed. Wool nappies made of pure wool are soft, stretchable, and extra tight due to the two layers of wool.

The wool cover must be greased with wool fat (lanolin) before first use to get water-repellent. It must further be combined with absorbing inserts (e.g., cotton flat, hemp flat, or muslin cloth) to form a complete nappy.

The wool cover is available in the following sizes: Size 1 (ca. 4-7 kg), Size 2 (ca. 7-12 kg) and Size 3 (ca. 11-16 kg). Please note that the weight information of the sizes can only be an estimate, as the fit depends on the stature of the respective child.   With this package you save 10% compared to the individual products The package is the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of wool nappies, for beginners and experienced cloth nappy users. It contains one wool cover of your choice, lanolin for greasing, a sample bag of green olive soap flakes, and five different absorbing inserts. The wool cover is made of 100% organic merino wool. The cover must be combined with absorbing inserts and greased with wool fat (lanolin) before first use to get water-repellent. It may also fit over compact absorbent nappies. The snaps are attached in such a way that they do not touch the child’s skin.   Fibres The outer fabric consists of 100% finest organic merino wool from Mrs.BeAn. Please note that the weight information of the sizes can only be an estimate, as the fit depends on the stature of the respective child.   Possible combination of inserts When combining absorbent inserts, there is a rule of thumb that must be observed: Fast-absorbing cotton should always be in contact with the child, with hemp inserts placed underneath. Hemp absorbs more moisture than cotton, but relatively slowly.
  • The cotton flat is tripled along the long side and directly placed in the wool cover. Make sure that the flat reaches the edge of the cover, but not beyond. Otherwise leakage is likely to occur.
  • For more absorbency, the cotton flat is combined with a hemp booster: along the entire length (booster – long) or selectively (booster – short) where the absorption needs to be greatest. For boys more at the front and for girls in the middle of the cover.
  • The hemp flat is placed directly in the wool cover. Fold the flat along the long side for covers of size 1 and along the short side for covers of sizes 2 and 3. You must combine it with a cotton liner or muslin nappy. Pure cotton quickly absorbs moisture and directs it downwards where it is stored in the hemp flat.
  A wool washing soap is highly recommended for minor stains. The soap contains lanolin and greases the wool directly when it is washed. In the long term, over-greasing of the wool cover is hence avoided.   Scope of delivery   Processing time: 5-10 working days
