We offer different merino wool types for our covers and insert. Finest 100% organic merino wool lines all our covers. We only use high quality merino wool from organic farms. This type of farming avoids mulesing, which is a painful method of protecting sheep from fly infection. Choosing organic merino wool is a conscious choice: For the welfare of sheep. Merino wool is soft and, when treated with lanolin, gets remarkably water-repellent. This is precisely the characteristic of wool nappies.

The wool is span under fair conditions in Germany. It is dyed with plant dyes. The main dyes used are madder root, mignonette, indigo, yellowwood, logwood, and redwood. A wonderfully natural fabric whose components are sustainably obtained and processed.

Wool is a great material for cloth nappies because, as well as being natural to baby’s skin, it is self-cleaning, temperature regulating and antibacterial. It also requires very little washing and it is usually enough to air the cover – much less work than people think.

Wool types used for the wool covers and insert

For the wool cover lining

We use knitted merino wool as a standard lining for all wool covers. The wool makes a slim nappy and is flexible, especially when combined with stretchy cotton or wool fabrics on the outside of the cover. This makes it the best choice if you want a flexible and slim nappy. It fits well over slim basic nappies. Undyed light brown and beige are the natural colours of the wool.

During production, we made sure that the stitches of the woollen fabric fit closely together, resulting in a dense weave. This is important so that the fabric remains water-repellent even with little lanolin. We have thus combined all the important properties in one fabric: organic, natural, stretchable, and dense. And to be honest, we’re a little proud of it too.

Merino wool fleece is primarily used for the wool liners (see below), but we also offer the option to choose wool fleece for the covers. Wool fleece covers are perfect for children who pee a lot. They easily cope with longer changing intervals, e.g. during the night. Are you interested? Get in touch before you place your order.

For the outer fabric of the wool cover

Various merino wool types are used for the outer fabric, all of which are knitted. The difference lies mainly in their thickness. Wool single is a relatively thin fabric which, in combination with the wool knit, makes a wonderfully slim nappy. Wool single includes, for example, the single-coloured wool covers, as well as the nappies made of hearts ajour, waves ajour and the nodules.

Do you like it a little thicker? For longer nappy changing intervals or for the night, for example? We use the same fabric for our wool nappies as we use for our 100% wool slings. The sling fabric is thicker and, above all, more elastic. The thickest wool we use is a jarquard. This is less stretchy than the single and the sling fabric. It is, for example, used for the raindrops and leopard wool covers.

For the wool liner (belongs to the inserts)

A wool liner has two functions. Either used as top layer on the inserts for babies who are sensitive to moisture or as an extra water-repellent wool layer. Find here more information on the use and application of the wool liner.

Fine boiled merino wool is a little rougher and pre-compressed, but still cosy and soft. Compared to regular boiled wool, the fabric is very thin. The merino wool essentially combines the properties of knitted wool and wool fleece: soft and supple, thin but reliably tight. The fabric is less sensitive to cleaning than wool fleece and knitted wool because it is specially felted in the factory.

Merino wool fleece is wonderfully soft, more voluminous than knitted and fine boiled merino wool, but very dense. After several washes and greases, wool fleece will become considerably slimmer as it compresses – yet the wool remains soft and comfortable. It also dries quickly. Perfect for an extra layer in the wool cover. For long changing intervals, such as on the go or during the night.
